You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey...

My mother's day present arrived yesterday and I've been playing with it ever since.
It was a bit daunting reading the manual and thinking, this couldn't be any easier if it were written in Japanese : p

I did a trial of the jacket with some spare fleece and cut out the 110cm size templates first.
I tested it by placing the pieces directly on Little Miss and decided that the sleeves were way too big and long. So then, I placed the 100cm template on top and snipped to size.

This is how it has turned out so far.

So far as good. I tried it on her this morning and it fitted quite well.
I'm not sure if I want to finish off making the collar, buttonholes and pockets or jump right into the real jacket.

I'm so in love with how it overlocks the edges while cutting it neatly for me.
Such bliss.

  1. I got one recently and LOVE it! Though I have to say that it is totally worth doing a course at your local sewing centre to get your head around all the functions. I did a class on the weekend and there were so many, "WOW, I can do THAT?!?" moments, I can't wait to get into testing the overlocker out some more. I love the rolled hem feature so much, and they taught me how to do cute little frilly lettuce leaf hems on jersey fabric, and how to properly start and finish it off, so good!

Anyway, lucky you, that is an awesome present! Enjoy, Cherry

Invisible zipper foot - Birch

I thought I might shed some light on the invisible zipper foot. I bought a Birch model from Spotlight and it came in a little plastic bag with four blue shanks and a rolling foot.

First I removed the standard foot from my Janome sewing machine (Sewist 521). I realised I still needed to remove the shank, which is the part that is screwed on, and holds the interchangeable feet. So with one hand holding the screwdriver and one hand holding my daughter, who just had to watch, it popped out disappeared somewhere. NO! I was about to kick myself but luckily I found it in the basket underneath my table. Phew.

The Birch invisible zipper foot comes with one shank already in place so you know how it's suppose to fit. You have to select the correct shank that fits your machine and slide it onto the foot piece.

I just tried each blue part on my machine and made sure it was wide enough to cover the metal leg bit and that I could fit the screw in it's side. Once you find the correct shank slide…

Laser Eye Surgery

< feeling sleepy Blogger doesn't like any of my camera pictures at the moment so I can't show you the pictures taken while I was having my eye's lasered. Here are the pics that Blogger decided it would upload of my eye surgery. I finally decided not to wait any longer and after I saw an advertisement at the local medical centre for the Sebban Eye Centre I decided to see if I was a suitable candidate for laser eye surgery. The check only takes 30mins and boy was I glad to hear that I was! I booked an appointment the very next day but I had to still wait 6weeks.
< during the laser!
A week has passed now and I still have slightly blurry vision since having TransPRK or Advanced Surface Laser. Sometimes when I use the saline drops I have clear vision even from the kitchen to the lounge which is fantastic. I just wish it would hurry up so I can get on with things. I have to have IE at 125% otherwise I find it hard to read and I haven't been on the net for a few days now…

The cutest labels - Hippo Blue

This is my youngest daughter Jacquie. Jacquie is 3, turning 4 very soon and goes to day care once a week. She also has speech therapy once a week and bad mummy packs her food in plastic bags and old lunch boxes and scribbles her name on paper labels.
Jacquie is very happy today because she's sporting a brand new lunch box which has her name imprinted on it and it was made by Hippo Blue. Jacquie is in dire need of special name labels and that is where Hippo Blue saved my day and made everything look pretty. Hippo Blue made up a batch of their Vinyl Label Variety pack and I could not be more pleased. I've had other labels before and these ones are quite impressive. Why? well because there's a lot more variety. I like how there are different sizes so I can plaster her name on all her pieces she needs for day care and school.
Did you see those cute footprint stickers? They're shoe stickers. How cool! We also recieved round dots and new square ones which I've never se…
