Gift of Books - Giveaway

Hello everyone. I am absolutely blessed to be sent books by Scholastic to review and isn't it just the best thing ever to be able to give some away! Sharing is, of course, caring. Scholastic have released some really beautiful Christmas books this year. Some are more traditional than others so everyone gets a lovely chance to pick a favourite.

Here are my kids with the books that come with a cd. They really enjoy the music and being able to sing along with the story. I recommend if you can get a hold of one with a cd it is well worth it. They just keep playing the cd and even with the instrumental music they can read it themselves. Jay Laga'aia does a wonderful job singing the story in a way that keeps the kids involved.

I'm going to give away these two books. The one above is "One Night" by Penny Matthews and Illustrated by Stephen Michael King. It tells the story of the birth of baby Jesus through the way of the animals. It's very sweet and very easy for your young schooler to read aloud.

This one called "There was an old bloke who swallowed a present" by P.Crumble and Illustrated by Louis Shea is about a bloke who swallows different types of presents. Good fun for the kids and big and bright pictures. I like these ones to teach the kids to name all the pictures on the pages.

Here is their aunty who is very much into her books so much so that her whole bedroom is like a big library. Michael is reading to her and Elijah is waiting his turn and posing.

So, here's the nitty gritty. Just leave a comment telling me what you are giving to kids this Christmas ( I need good ideas) and it's open to everyone. I'll pick out two winners next Tuesday 2nd Dec. so I can send them out on Wednesday.

Thanks everyone, Hope you have a great week!

  1. Hi! First time I've visited your blog. Lovely to have a look around. I'd LOVE to win a copy of One Night as I'm always on the lookout for picture books that tell the Christmas story in a fresh way. This year, my son is getting a guitar for Christmas (SHHH... don't tell him!)

Invisible zipper foot - Birch

I thought I might shed some light on the invisible zipper foot. I bought a Birch model from Spotlight and it came in a little plastic bag with four blue shanks and a rolling foot. First I removed the standard foot from my Janome sewing machine (Sewist 521). I realised I still needed to remove the shank, which is the part that is screwed on, and holds the interchangeable feet. So with one hand holding the screwdriver and one hand holding my daughter, who just had to watch, it popped out disappeared somewhere. NO! I was about to kick myself but luckily I found it in the basket underneath my table. Phew. The Birch invisible zipper foot comes with one shank already in place so you know how it's suppose to fit. You have to select the correct shank that fits your machine and slide it onto the foot piece. I just tried each blue part on my machine and made sure it was wide enough to cover the metal leg bit and that I could fit the screw in it's side. Once you find the correct shank sl...
