Celebrations

A few things happen all at once when we hit June. Elijah has his birthday and we took him bowling with a few young cousins. My manager at work lent me her silicon cupcake mould and I made him a big cupcake for his birthday. My go to cake mix is Betty Crockers Iressistables (sp?) Chocolate Mousse cake. Oh it's divine. The mousse cream is the best. There's a hole inside the cupcake on purpose just to fill with ice-cream or choc mousse. I think I put on an extra kilo that day ; )

The last minute birthday plan was bowling. It's the best place because the woodfire pizza is fantastic and overall it's a budget winner. One game was enough for the ten kids. The kids have a ball (except for Miss 8 who didn't enjoy it). He has this thing about lining up the empty pop tops and bowling them over with the basketball at home. Bowling is his thing. I love him. He's a bit on the crazy side and a bit slow with his speech so I'm keeping him back a year from Kindy so he can get up to par. I hope it's the right thing to do and I've been told by many mums that it is.  He is such a mummy's boy too.

Secondly, we hit Winter here Down Under and it's rather cold in the evenings. Sunday evening I made self-saucing chocolate pudding. It's awesome stuff. We didn't have fresh thickened cream so Miss 8 suggested ice cream which we had and it took it to a whole new level. It was delicious.

Last week I took him to Ikea and I bought this small Kallax unit to store their shoes. They keep dumping them on the floor and I find it hideously and annoying. Miss 8 helped me and in 40 minutes this little beauty came together. I bought the black Kona boxes instead of the more expensive plastic boxes. I love it.

Here he is enjoying his lunch at Ikea. He was really good and sat in the trolley for me instead of running around like a headless chook. I enjoyed the free coffee and quinoa/kale salad. Mmmmmm I don't plan to go back soon but it was sure fun.

When I leave work here is the view just before I hit the street. The lovely trees are shedding beautiful leaves. We are rugging up with jumpers, coats and boots. I kind of can't wait for Spring and I'll be hitting Summer when I go to the U.S. It cannot come any sooner. I've got my passport with the obligatory ugly mug shot and I'm trying to figure out what to bring on the plane. Maybe just a toothbrush and a change of clothes. Any suggestions for a long flight?

I am so excited I cannot even think about anything else.. lol.

Exciting things that spur me on.

This is going to be a quick post as my eyes are about the roll into the back of my eyeballs.
Dinner was really good at the start of May but did a slow downward drop as it came into June.
I try to keep to meat and veg at least for family dinners. Sometimes, it's grilled drumsticks for the kids and I'll eat left overs. There seems to be an influx of dessert/snacking types of food and I am feeling it around my belly. Not good peoples. I'd be ok with it if I was making the time to go to the gym but my time is so limited these days. Does anyone else feel this way?

I hope you're enjoying making healthy dinners anyway. This is Jacquie's 'Smiley face' plate. Rice, fish and greens. There's another photo where I put on corn cob hair but it was blurry so I'll spare you that. I am so boring on Fridays but the kids seem to enjoy fish every Friday even if it's soup. Oh soup. How simple and delicious!!! You know the kids will eat anything if they are starved enough. Michael ate the muesli bar I put in his lunch box today as we ran out of everything else and he said it was yummy. Normally, they all smirk at me if I even ask them if they want to try a muesli bar. But HA, the joke's on him. I got him to start eating muesli bars that contain oats.

Well, I think I must be the most patient wife in the world because I have not travelled with hubster since our honeymoon which was a decade ago. Yes friends. A whole decade. So, since he is going to San Jose for three days he asked " Why don't you come with me?" Well, you don't have to ask me twice. I'm going to meet him on his last day and we're doing San Francisco (The City, locals say don't call it San Fran), Vegas, and Los Angeles. I'm stoked. I could not be happier. It's not happening til August but I 'm running on excitement juice and I can't even tell you how many people at work I've already told.

If you've got some good advice please share it with us. Have you done any shopping there? Would you recommend any good restaurants. We're definately walking the Golden Gate Bridge. Ahhhh. So.excited!!!

Anyway, I'll keep you all posted. I need to sleep. It's 11pm and I'm going to make lunches tomorrow morning.
