Taking the Stress out of Serging

I recieved this bookby Chris James from Fishpond the other day and I read the whole thing whilst we took a trip to the city to pick up Little Miss' new car seat. I must say how fabulous it has been already. It has lots of great pictures although I am yet to understand why my loops don't look the same as hers. I sat with it last night and played around with my overlocker/serger. It was still annoying to see the 4 thread pictures regarding tension so I opened up my manual and referred to 3-thread diagrams. Things finally began to click . I also tested on a folded piece of fabric rather than only one layer. It makes the stitching come out nicer and more visible. I jotted down notes: test 1: tensions 4, 3, 4 = loops too loose test 2: tensions 5, 4, 3 = loops sit right on edge, maybe a little bit under test 3: tensions 5, 3, 2 = a bit better? blue - upper loper orange - lower looper ... stuff like that.... it really does help. Reading

I thought I'd enlighten you readers on what a few of the books that I'm forever dragging out now that I'm a full-time SAHM. Also, that's my boy. He's sprouting his second tooth and he giggles until he has hiccups. 1. Destitute Gourmet: The title perfectly defines how I cook. Dinner stresses me just thinking about it and I end up making up something on the spot. Lucky for me my hubs likes most of the food I eat quote: 'I don't like it when you put chick peas in food' I've only ever made one or two things from this book so it's not really saving my sanity at the moment. 3/5 stars 2. Supernanny by Jo Frost: I love this book. Very simple and ingenius. I'm using the Naughty Step on my daughter although it frightens the hell out of me just thinking about using it. There's loads of information and my trouble is just trying to remember it all. She covers a whole lot of issues from newborn to toddler so it's well worth the read. 4.5 stars 3. ...

Japanese Book Part 2

Hurrah! My book has arrived and I have no idea where to start. Here are some of the pics from inside which I just love love love . I've been reading it in bed when the kids are asleep. The instructions seem quite easy to understand even if they are written in Japanese. I must print out the translations later on today and start jotting notes. So... I have in my stash for these projects some grey jersey knit, cornflower blue cotton with white spots... just to name the starters. I have also ordered some crochet lace on Etsy from Kalena's Studio . Ahhh I can breathe a little easier now . Now, if I could only just get some child and baby free time.
