Mother's Day

If you're anything like me, you've only just realised that Mother's Day is this Sunday. I figured this out as they mentioned it at church. Then my sister texts me to tell me that we're having dinner at mums on Saturday and to bring in a plate. Above is a really old picture of my parents, me (in pink) and my youngest sister. Don't you love our hair! I don't know where the rest of the family are but this is at my grandparents place in the early 80's.

I haven't decided what to get mum yet. Last year it was boring robe and slippers. This year mum deserves something more lovely and thoughtful. She's been through a loss of her eldest daughter and she needs some pampering. She never asks for anything and always wonders why we spend our money on her. I have to get her flowers I think to start with.

I did, however, pick up this bag for myself from Strandbags. They are having sale right now. I needed to replace my green BlueBird one that my sister bought for me before as it was worn down and the clasps were not working properly anymore. This Laura Jones one is perfect and has a zillion pockets. It's easy to put in my essentials and off I go. It was also 30% off so only cost me $22.

Then I was at Kmart and I found this on the shelf. It's by one the MasterChef contestants Samira El Khafir. I had to get it as I really like the recipes inside it and it would impress my husband if I cooked more like his mum use to. It has won the Australian Mediterranean Cook Book Award 2014 so it's sure to be a hit in any household who likes Lebanese food.

I really hope that all you mums out there have a wonderful Mother's Day. I know the kids are getting excited about the Mother's Day Stall tomorrow. It's really cute and my kindy girl will surely bring me back something I love. So have a relaxing weekend and stay tuned to this space for some more regular posting. Don't forget to send in entry in the Giveaway below!!!

Apologies everyone as I previously said there would be two giveaways but alas there will be just the current Nestle Healthy Active Kids one open (below) until 15th May.

Invisible zipper foot - Birch

I thought I might shed some light on the invisible zipper foot. I bought a Birch model from Spotlight and it came in a little plastic bag with four blue shanks and a rolling foot. First I removed the standard foot from my Janome sewing machine (Sewist 521). I realised I still needed to remove the shank, which is the part that is screwed on, and holds the interchangeable feet. So with one hand holding the screwdriver and one hand holding my daughter, who just had to watch, it popped out disappeared somewhere. NO! I was about to kick myself but luckily I found it in the basket underneath my table. Phew. The Birch invisible zipper foot comes with one shank already in place so you know how it's suppose to fit. You have to select the correct shank that fits your machine and slide it onto the foot piece. I just tried each blue part on my machine and made sure it was wide enough to cover the metal leg bit and that I could fit the screw in it's side. Once you find the correct shank sl
