Family and Food

Seriously, what else is there in life which brings people together than having food around. Constantly. Well, school's back in and I am in the swing of things. Last night the kids made raspberry and coconut muffins. Thanks White Wings. It was truly awesome. Next time I'll buy both boxes (or more). They were meant to be for school but the kids left nothing behind and it was so easy for them to make. Yes, it is officially Winter down under. My gosh we've been so cold. It's gone down to zero degrees in the morning and it's pretty chilly outside but no snow where we live. These are my girls all rugged up. I think it was a church day. I found my eldest great pull up jeans from Pumpkin Patch. She never really liked the other zipper ones. The pull-up ones are so comfy!   I couldn't help myself and I made 3 ingredient Nutella brownies. They are delish but man, you need one cup of Nutella, two eggs and 3/4 cups of flour. I made this in two batches (so two...

Celebrations

A few things happen all at once when we hit June. Elijah has his birthday and we took him bowling with a few young cousins. My manager at work lent me her silicon cupcake mould and I made him a big cupcake for his birthday. My go to cake mix is Betty Crockers Iressistables (sp?) Chocolate Mousse cake. Oh it's divine. The mousse cream is the best. There's a hole inside the cupcake on purpose just to fill with ice-cream or choc mousse. I think I put on an extra kilo that day ; ) The last minute birthday plan was bowling. It's the best place because the woodfire pizza is fantastic and overall it's a budget winner. One game was enough for the ten kids. The kids have a ball (except for Miss 8 who didn't enjoy it). He has this thing about lining up the empty pop tops and bowling them over with the basketball at home. Bowling is hi...

Exciting things that spur me on.

This is going to be a quick post as my eyes are about the roll into the back of my eyeballs. Dinner was really good at the start of May but did a slow downward drop as it came into June. I try to keep to meat and veg at least for family dinners. Sometimes, it's grilled drumsticks for the kids and I'll eat left overs. There seems to be an influx of dessert/snacking types of food and I am feeling it around my belly. Not good peoples. I'd be ok with it if I was making the time to go to the gym but my time is so limited these days. Does anyone else feel this way? I hope you're enjoying making healthy dinners anyway. This is Jacquie's 'Smiley face' plate. Rice, fish and greens. There's another photo where I put on corn cob hair but it was blurry so I'll spare you that. I am so boring on Fridays but the kids seem to enjoy fish every Friday even if it's soup. Oh soup. How simple and delicious!!! You know the kids will eat anything if they ...

Winner - Nestle Giveaway

Wow, I loved the food pictures you have all sent to me. I've been getting some really great ideas for dinner options for my fussy eaters. It was hard to pick but I chose the best pics/recipes that I could replicate at home. The winners of the Nestle Healthy Active Kids are Sophie, Michelle and Kou!!! Above are Sophie's Spinach and Feta twists. They look amazing and so easy to make. I think my kids would love them too. A great lunch box filler or afternoon snack. Here is her Kale and White Bean soup. Looks amazeballs!! Perfect for our Winter weather although my kids would smirk at the green stuff but we just have to keep trying don't we? I tell them they will just starve if they don't eat what I make for dinner. I am loving this plate of snowpeas and broccoli. It would be something hubby and I would devour. My kids would only eat the peas inside but it's a start. I am liking the addition of sesame seeds and what is that yummy stuff in the back? Gy...

Mother's Day

If you're anything like me, you've only just realised that Mother's Day is this Sunday. I figured this out as they mentioned it at church. Then my sister texts me to tell me that we're having dinner at mums on Saturday and to bring in a plate. Above is a really old picture of my parents, me (in pink) and my youngest sister. Don't you love our hair! I don't know where the rest of the family are but this is at my grandparents place in the early 80's.   I haven't decided what to get mum yet. Last year it was boring robe and slippers. This year mum deserves something more lovely and thoughtful. She's been through a loss of her eldest daughter and she needs some pampering. She never asks for anything and always wonders why we spend our money on her. I have to get her flowers I think to start with.       I did, however, pick up this bag for myself from Strandbags. They are having sale right now. I needed to replace my green BlueBir...

Healthy Active Kids plus Nestle Giveaway

What's on your plate kids? You may remember that my kids were offered to take part in the Healthy Active Kids session which was held by Nestle at the Royal Easter Show. We couldn't say no to kids cooking and it was their first time at the Show . They made these easy Rice Paper Rolls and Yummy Apricot Balls on specially designed plates which shows the kids how much food they put in each section. Too easy. As a mum I know we are always looking for a fantastic resource which gets kids involved in the kitchen and promotes awareness of what foods your kids should be eating and trying new things. Nestle have teamed up with the Australian Institute of Sport to raise awareness and promote physical activity among primary school age children. As part of the program, the website www.healthyactivekids.com.au is an interactive resource for parents and teachers, to educate children to lead healthy, active lives. Recently we made these ANZAC biscuits in honour of our hero...

While we were on holidays

Oh the memories of the recent Easter/School Holiday Break brings me so much joy. It was magical, fun-filled, steady paced and enjoyable. We went to the show for the first-time (well for the kids anyway) and the kids loved it. Look at that smile. Pure joy. Elijah was a bit scared at first but I held onto him and then as he got use to it he relaxed and enjoyed himself. You just have to go on the carousel when you're at The Show. The last day was great as it was Kids Day so rides were two for one until 5pm. Some Showbags ran out but we managed to get 3/4 that we wanted so it was great. I even got a bargain on the Womens Weekly bag as they ran out of stock but used the bags to put in spare items and sold it for $10. Awesome! The older two kids attended the Nestle Active Healthy Kids session in the Food Farm. What a fantastic session which got a lot of kids cooking something healthy that they would eat themselves. My kids are use to rice paper rolls. We must have them at le...
